MARSHALL’S MISSION
(I am running 42 KM in memory of Private David Greenslade)

Hi my name is Marshall and I am proud to be Canadian.  I can say this freely thanks to the men and women in the Canadian Forces who bravely serve our country.  Have you heard about RED FRIDAYS?  I have been wearing red every Friday for over 2 years in Support of our Troops.  I do this because soldiers are special people – everyone has been touched by a soldier - whether it’s your grandfather who served in WWII or a neighbour who currently serves on a mission.

Private David Greenslade was a young soldier from Saint John who lost his life in Afghanistan.  On the day of his funeral many turned out to pay their respects for his bravery and selflessness, however, two years have passed and few of us remember him.  He was a young man who wanted to bring the children of Afghanistan opportunity – the chance to go to school, play, smile, and just be kids without fear of being harmed.

I would like to thank Private David Greenslade and ALL Canadian soldiers.  During the month of May I will be running 42km (the equivalent of a marathon) during my school’s noon time running club.  All monies raised will be donated to the Private David Greenslade Memorial Bursary.  Fairvale Elementary School and The Red Friday Foundation of Canada will track my progress for all those who are interested.

Pledges from Marshall's Red Run go to the The Private David Greenslade Memorial Bursary, it is “The Private David Greenslade Memorial Bursary”. It is a bursary awarded to a Saint John High School graduate with a military background (they are serving in the military / a family member serving or who has served), who is plans to attend university.

Thank you for your donation and in helping me Support our Canadian Troops.

Marshall starts his running club on May 4th and will be running every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (again starting on May 4th and ending June 12th). On June 12th the school holds the final lap and the entire school comes out to cheer on the marathon runners –keep in mind Marshall is the only one asking for pledges in support of Private David Greenslade's Memorial bursary. More information regarding pledges and dates and times for Marshall's Red Run will be posted here shortly. New photos will be posted as well.

Marshall Howards's Red Run Hits an Amazing 67KM Run and Raises $2,250.00 for Pte. David Greenslade' Bursary

Donnie and Laurie Greenslade hold the ribbon marking the finish line as Marshall Howard completes the 67th and final kilometre of a fundraising run he began on May 4. Howard presented the Greenslades with a cheque for $2,250 for the Pte. David Greenslade Memorial Bursary Fund. For the final leg of the run, Howard was joined by his father Ron, friends Tommy Bucke, Noah Johnson, Tyler Dickson, Jon Wiseman, Tristan Keith, Luke Doucette, Meredith Garnett, and Canadian Forces members Pat LeBlanc, Josh King and Chris Roy at the Saint John Armouries who served with Pte. David Greenslade in Afghanistan.

The Local paper and the local news on Global and CTV ran a feature on Marshall's accomplishment. A record of the paper's story is located here. http://telegraphjournal.canadaeast.com/city/article/698199  Marshall's mom, Dorothy quoted to Red Fridays " Laurie Greenslade was also on 88.9 with Tom Young (a local radio station) and Tom Young was simply in awe of Marshall (he kept repeating Marshall’s name and age as if to lock it into his memory).", "We are all excited about Marshall attending the 2010 Repatriation Memorial Drive and Rally (The Red Ride), - as Don and Laurie Greenslade said the rest of this country deserves to meet Marshal so that he can inspire other young people to follow his passion".

In a speech prepared for the cheque presentation at the Armouries with CF members present, Marshall was quoted saying "The hearts of the men and women who serve our country have the biggest hearts in the world. You make me believe there is still hope for a peace. You have won my heart and today I say thank you... Thank you Mr. & Mrs. Greenslade for sharing David’s life with me and I promise you I will never forget David and will honor him by always sharing him with others. So in celebrating David, I present to you a cheque for $2,250.00 for the Pte. David Greenslade Memorial Bursary".

23 KM and counting for Marshall's Run

Friday, May 22 2009
RFFC - Rothesay NB

This marks the half way point for Marshall! This week Marshall ran on Wednesday as Friday he visited the Middle school he will be attending next year.  He did great – got another 5km in with his Dad running along side of him Wednesday.  The local news paper has printed a story on Marshall's run.

Here is the article about Marshall and his effort to raise funds for Pte. David Greenslade's Bursary. Telegraph Journal did a great job and hopefully it will help Marshall raise more funds. There will be a follow up story on June 12th when he has completed his final lap.                      --30--

Marshall had another great week!  He ran 5km on Monday May 11 and 4km on Wednesday May 14.  He was also interviewed by the Telegraph Journal, our newspaper in New Brunswick.  Marshall was very good in the interview announcing to date Marshall has raised approximately $800 – he informed the reporter that he had a goal of $2,000 and anything above that would be bonus!
