Remembering Private Kevin Kennedy
April 17, 2007

Residents of the Burin Peninsula presented their final respects yesterday to one of their own, as the visitation for Private Kevin Kennedy in his hometown of St. Lawrence. Private Kevin Vincent Kennedy was just 20-years old when he was killed on Easter Sunday by a roadside bomb blast in Afghanistan, along with five other soldiers. Sergeant Donald Lucas of St. John's also died in the tragedy, which injured two other members of the second Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment, Hotel Company. Kennedy grew up in St. Lawrence, and has left a long list of friends and family mourning in that community. Today they will pay their respects at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church. Private Kevin Kennedy will be resting at the church from 2 to 6pm and 7 to 10pm today. Also this morning from 10am to 1pm. His funeral will be held in St. Mary's and he will be buried in his mother's hometown of St. Vincent's on Thursday. The Kennedy family have asked that donations be made to The St. Lawrence Soccer Association.
