OTTAWA – Three Canadian soldiers were killed after an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle, while on patrol, on Highway 1 in Zharey District on a notoriously dangerous stretch of highway in southern Afghanistan at approximately 10:30 a.m., Kandahar time, on August 20, 2008.

Sergeant Shawn Eades, 33, a combat engineer with 12 Field Squadron, 1 Combat Engineer Regiment from Edmonton, Alberta and attached to the Second Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Battle Group.

He was evacuated to Kandahar Air Field’s Role 3 Multi-National Medical Facility. Sadly he was confirmed dead by medical authorities.
